Monday, February 22, 2016

We woke up a little earlier this morning.  Maybe we are adjusted to French time now.  David made my coffee and we threw some clothes on and walked to the bakery for a baguette and two apple pastries.  Our favorite bakery is still closed until tomorrow so we walked a little further to the one by the grocery store.  Very, very good.  Chaussen aux Pommes!

While I was enjoying my coffee, I was looking around the living room and saw these pots of flowers in many places.  They are from Rachael's wedding last summer -- can you believe they still look so pretty!

After breakfast we walked up the Carine's new business.  It is the old pub where we drank beer but now there is a news stand there also.  Carine did not know we were in Saint Aignan so she was very excited to see us.  You never know if people will remember you or not!  She told us all about buying the new place and how she totally cleaned it and painted it and re-decorated it in two months.  She and her Dad did all of the work themselves.  She said it was soooooooo much work.  It is very nice now. Clean and much brighter and it feels good there.  Only she and her husband, Bruno, work there.  She said the news stand is hers and the coffee/beer/soft drink bar is run by her husband, but they both work in both areas, of course.  We had a Coke Light while we visited.  She also showed us a room behind the bar which is also nice and she's going to turn it into a tea shop.  The entire family has moved permanently to Saint Aignan from Bourges.  Before, Carine traveled back and forth to her shop every day from there.  They have a 12 year old son who goes to school in Saint Aignan now and he likes it very much.  Their 18 year old daughter is going to university in Tours.  I'm sad because I forgot to take a picture of Carine.  But maybe we'll go there for coffee in the morning and I can take it then and post it.

We again walked and walked all around the town.  It is so historic and beautiful here.  We walked along the river and we walked up to the Chateau -- it was a perfect day for a long walk.  Chilly but dry.  On the way home we ran into Claire and Douglas and two of their friends who were going to the Fun Doner for lunch.  So many nice people here!!!

This afternoon we are reading and writing and looking forward to going to Aux Cepages for a glass of wine with Christina and Claude.  I'll try to remember to take pictures of them.  More later!

10:20 pm

Christina and Claude stopped by around 6:00 and we went to Aux Cepages for wine.  It was so great to catch up with them!!!  Claude returned from his billiard tournament and although I did not understand everything he said, I figured out that he was not the champion this time!

I hate to even admit this but the lovely Christina is 76 years old!!!  Isn't she beautiful?  We had a very nice visit with them and they invited us to their home for dinner on Saturday night.  We love spending time with them even tho we all struggle to communicate.  It's funny, tho, that our French gets better and their English gets better the more wine we drink!

We came home around 8:30 and I threw together some pasta for dinner.  It was pretty good for jarred sauce and pre-made pasta.

And now it's bedtime again.  We are trying to make the time pass very, very slowly and enjoy every minute at our beloved La Boulangerie.  Not sure what tomorrow will bring but we will enjoy it . . . whatever it is!  Bonne Nuit. Fais de beaux reves!

  1. Wow! I can't believe those plants survived all this time. I couldn't bring myself to throw them out when we were finished with them. So I left them with Christina. She is a wonderful gardener so I should not be surprised that they are still kicking on! Glad to see you are having a great time. It is lovely getting into town and seeing so many friends, it really makes you feel connected to the place.
