Hello all! Our day today started off slowly and quietly. We dallied over coffee and iced tea. We didn't bother with breakfast because we were going to Douglas and Claire's for Sunday lunch at 12:30. We took showers (we love the rain shower head) and wore one of our three outfits! We left La Boulangerie at 12:29 and got there right on time.
Claire was downstairs cleaning. She is having a meeting at the house tomorrow and was making the house ready. We walked upstairs and said hello to Douglas -- he picked up a cold somewhere (probably all of that kissing!) but said he was feeling OK. We joined him in the kitchen and look at the beautiful table Claire set! I like the piece the knife rests on. She told us she got it in Africa.
First we had a raw sweet potato salad and it was delicious. It was marinated in a dressing and finished with fresh coriander when Claire served it. I'm very sorry I didn't get a picture of it. Douglas made David his own pot of beans which were a little spicy and delicious.
The rest of us had the most delicious duck that he had stuffed with pineapple and onions. It was very tender and savory. He also baked a casserole of potatoes and onions in a cream sauce. He made a duck gravy as well.
This is my plate -- look at the wonderful duck skin!
We enjoyed a nice red wine with the lunch. For dessert Douglas poached pears in red wine, a little cinnamon and sugar. Incredibly good! And I forgot to take a picture of the pears too. In typical French fashion, I'm told, we began lunch at 12:30 and left at about 4:00!
David and I came home and sat around a little while and then decided to go to a movie. We left a little early to walk to the cinema because Douglas told us there was a new restaurant just past the cinema. It was not open tonight but we looked at the menu and peaked in the windows. It is FABULOUS inside! Very modern . . . black and white decor . . . wonderful bar and many tables. Rachael, I don't believe it was here when you were last here. Here are two teaser pictures and I will do a review with more pictures after we have dinner there.
At the cinema here, called the Petit Casino Cinema, they show all kinds of movies and frequently have American movies shown in the original language so today we saw "Carol" with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. The movie was scheduled for 6:00 pm and we were the first to arrive at about 5:55. More and more people came in and the theater was almost full when the movie started. It is a very nice theater and there is a bathroom right in the room which is very handy!
After the movie we walked home and the town was very, very quiet. It is just such a lovely place to be! We weren't really hungry when we got home so we just had a few crackers and cheese and a banana for dinner.
It is now 10:00 pm and we are heading to bed to read a little before sleeping.
